Is it a tuning problem?
Or perhaps not?
Or perhaps not?
Q4-2022
Is your process no longer running the way you'd like it to? Is it time to re-tune your process? If you've recently seen a change in your process performance, it could be that you don't need tuning. Finding the right root cause to the problem will get you the best results.
When is tuning needed?
The first time running the equipment:
Controls have not been tuned yet
Was not previously tuned successfully
The process has changed:
New operating set point
Different valve, pump, etc.
New product line
The control system has changed:
Updated control strategy
New scale on the PID input or output
Likely NOT a tuning problem!
The output is at 0% or 100%, and the process still can’t reach set point
An output change doesn't correspond to a measurement change
The measurement delay is much longer than the desired response
